The 2017 TU-Automotive Awards finalists were just announced and HARMAN has been honored as a finalist in the Best Telematics Product or Service category for HARMAN’s Map Live Layers solution and the HARMAN Ignite Platform, and also in the Best Connected Service or Product for a Commercial Market category for the Smart Telematics Gateway solution. Carefully selected by a panel of top expert judges in each niche segment of the connected car industry, over 400 nominations were received and analyzed across ten categories.

Map Live Layers is an industry first dynamic solution, which identifies the differences between on-board map data and real-world information captured through Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), navigation systems and on-board sensors. Leveraging spatial machine learning techniques, the solution has the ability to deliver real-time critical updates to the road network and updates vehicles with important map details to ensure the connected car and its driver are aware and prepared for the road conditions they’ll face ahead. HARMAN first launched the Map Layers solution at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show earlier this year in March. Working closely to design the solution with a luxury German automaker that implemented and leveraged the solution over the past three years in Germany, HARMAN expects to expand its usage across regions including Europe and North America.

HARMAN’s Connected Services division is also being recognized as a finalist for their Ignite platform, which is the first fully-integrated, cloud-based platform for developing, managing and operating in-vehicle applications. Specifically, Ignite controls all communication within connected cars, providing portable personalization, allowing drivers and passengers to go from vehicle to vehicle with all presets from their car, a critical and necessary step for the future of car sharing. Prior to Ignite, automotive OEMs had to rely and manage on disparate systems to offer various services like over-the-air software updates and device management.  Now, automotive services can be offered, managed and monetized using a single integrated seamless platform.

HARMAN’s Connected Car technology leverages Smart Telematics Gateway Solution, which is also a TU Automotive award finalist. The Smart Telematics Gateway enables enhanced security, a crucial component within the connected services industry.  The solution can be installed on any car network, enabling greater end-to-end secure connectivity, mobilizing every engine control unit (ECU) to be updated with the latest fixes, updates and functions that OEMs look to deliver their consumers, a major advancement within connected services.

HARMAN’s end-to-end connected car system provides drivers intelligent, adaptable and personal solutions in the car. With more than 2,000 patents within HARMAN’s Connected Car division alone, in all key domains – including safety, design, navigation, connectivity, networking, HMI and more, HARMAN continues to push the boundaries bringing connected car innovations to market that enable new connected experiences, improve driver safety and increase vehicle security. This recognition from TU Automotive is a testament to HARMAN’s innovation and success, which has positioned the Company as an established leader within the connected car and services industries. We are excited to be named as finalists for these distinguished awards.

Final winners will be announced at The Hyatt Place in Novi, MI on Tuesday, June 6th! Here is the full list of finalists.
