Recently announced HARMAN and the 1,000 Dreams Fund have teamed up for another consecutive year to launch the second annual #NewFaceofTech Challenge, a national scholarship program for young women aspiring to live their dreams. The online social program spotlights and financially supports promising young women in pursuit of big dreams in the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).
Careers in technology are among the fastest-growing professional occupations in the U.S., with a projected growth rate of more than 9 million jobs between 2012 and 2020, according to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, women continue to remain underrepresented in the technology sector. As an organization that bears testament to the fact that our best innovations are a direct result of the range of ideas that come from our diverse workforce, we’re thrilled to expand our partnership with the 1,000 Dreams Fund to addresses the importance of helping women early in their careers and to help level the playing field.
The #NewFaceofTech 2.0 campaign officially kicks off on International Women’s Day, March 8, and the photo submission period will run through April 5. Ten finalists will be chosen by 1,000 Dream Fund, and a week-long public vote from April 9 – 13 will help choose the five grant recipients. Winners will be announced on April 16, 2018. All 10 finalists will receive a set of JBL Everest 110 headphones. Due to last year’s overwhelming response to the inaugural program, HARMAN and the 1,000 Dreams Fund expanded the program from STEM to include the Arts, and have increased the number of grant recipients to five, from two.
To participate in the scholarship campaign, we’re inviting young women with career aspirations in STEAM industries to show how they represent the #NewFaceofTech, by snapping a photo and sharing a personal account of how they plan to put the grant funding to work in achieving their STEAM goals.

Through custom online entry form that lives on a 1,000 Dreams Fund’s campaign page, applicants upload their favorite photo and a personal account of what they are doing to reach their career dreams in STEAM.

All entrants, once approved, will be featured on the #NewFaceofTech landing page.
Step 3: SHARE WITH FRIENDS!
Applicants are encouraged to use social networks to help promote the program, and finalists should use social media to promote voting for their entry.
In recognition of the great contributions of female leaders in STEAM, HARMAN in collaboration with the 1,000 Dreams Fund will also host a moderated panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing women in STEAM at an invitation only event on International Women’s Day at the HARMAN Flagship store in New York City.
