At HARMAN, sustainability is embedded in how we work and think. This Earth Month, HARMAN employees across the world demonstrated that commitment through everyday decisions. Together, those actions drove measurable results and strengthened employee engagement.

Small Actions, Real Impact

This year’s annual Earth Day recycling drive on HARMAN’s Michigan (Novi) campus is a strong example of that effort in action. Together, employees diverted 817 pounds of electronic waste and 53 pounds of used batteries from landfills. These results reflect more than participation. They show what’s possible when people take ownership and act.

In addition, our employee challenge initiative, “Extend the Experience,” encouraged employees to pause nonessential purchases and rethink how they consume. By repairing, borrowing, and reusing instead of buying new, these small choices drove real impact.

Parth Kulkarni, for example, was about to buy a new smartwatch after seeing a great deal. But after thinking it through, they realized their current watch was still doing everything they needed. So they walked away and kept using it. It’s a simple decision, but sometimes, the most sustainable choice is simply sticking with what already works.

In other cases, it means extending the life of everyday technology. Abhijit Debbarma chose to repair a personal laptop by replacing the battery and adapting their setup, avoiding the need for a new device. The same approach applies to long-term care and maintenance. Clemens Treiber has kept a bicycle running for more than a decade by replacing parts over time instead of starting over.

Employees are also applying this approach to other areas of their lives. Barbara Platero uses a food cycler to turn food scraps into compost, reducing household waste by 70%,  while creating something useful for the garden.

Advancing Environmental Excellence

Earth Month also marked an important milestone for our Novi campus.

The Novi facility is certified to ISO 14001, the global standard for Environmental Management Systems, helping ensure that sustainability is built into daily operations and continuously improved over time.

During Earth Month, the site completed its annual external audit with SGS, a third-party registrar, and achieved zero non-conformances, reinforcing the strength of a sustainable  approach in practice.

This reflects a strong, well-managed system and consistent execution across teams. It also highlights the role employees play in making these systems effective every day.

A Global Effort, Driven by People

Across HARMAN, progress is driven by people. Whether it’s repairing instead of replacing, rethinking how materials are used, or contributing to site-wide initiatives, our employees are making sustainability part of their daily routines. These actions, both large and small, add up.

Earth Month is a chance to celebrate progress, but it also reinforces what comes next.

The results we saw this April are part of a larger journey. At HARMAN, sustainability is built over time through consistent actions, shared responsibility, and a focus on continuous improvement. Because real impact doesn’t come from one initiative. It comes from the choices we make every day.
