Helen Keller, author, lecturer, and political activist, once said, “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” For over sixty years, HARMAN has demonstrated our passion for working together to support the communities where we live and work around the world. Through HARMAN Inspired, our global cause initiative, our employees come together throughout the year to drive change on meaningful issues, such as science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education, music learning, community support and volunteerism, and sustainability, by conducting hands-on service, organizing fundraisers, and more.
While HARMAN, as always, remains committed on giving back to our communities and society, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented new challenges for people, businesses, and economies throughout the globe. Being cognizant of this new reality, we have identified new ways to provide support through HARMAN Inspired as we all take the necessary steps to mitigate the spread of the virus and weather its impact together. As we continue to practice social distancing and follow the additional recommended safety measures in place, HARMAN and our people continue to embrace the spirit of generosity and support our communities in the following ways:

- Contributing to Global Relief Efforts – Through HARMAN Inspired, we donated to the World Health Organization and UNICEF’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, which helps train, equip, and support the medical professionals across the globe who are working to detect, contain, and treat the coronavirus pandemic. HARMAN also donated to Feeding America, the nonprofit organization and largest hunger-relief organization in the U.S., to help deliver meals to families that normally rely on school systems to help provide food or who are otherwise unable to secure reliable meals for their families. HARMAN’s Senior Advisor to the Board & CEO, Dinesh Paliwal also contributed a generous donation through the Ila and Dinesh Paliwal Foundation. Additionally, our teams in Romania, India, and other countries around the world are making donations to help support their local communities.
- Creating and Donating Protective Gear –
In Denmark and Germany, HARMAN’s automotive teams partnered with local volunteers and suppliers to 3D-print protective face masks to help replenish the supply of PPE and protect healthcare workers who are treating coronavirus patients. The teams are in the process of printing masks, and plan to provide enough supply for several hundred local hospital workers who are struggling to meet the demand for protective gear. Employees based out of HARMAN’s Dandong, China office also spearheaded relief efforts to provide additional medical supplies across the region and proactively donated protective face masks to the Dandong government.
- Supporting Learning from Home Efforts – While schools remain closed, teachers and students across the U.S. are adapting to a new style of virtual learning. To help support the teachers, parents, and students who are working and learning from home, JBL has partnered with the nonprofit Little Kids Rock (LKR) to deliver more than 6,000 headphones to underserved communities across the country. With further support from brand ambassadors Aaron Judge, Julius Randle, Kenny Smith, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kemba Walker, Zach LaVine, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Andre Drummond, and Bam Abedayo, JBL and LKR are reaching teachers and students across cities including New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Milwaukee, Cleveland, and Miami. More details about the donations are available here.

HARMAN remains committed to taking meaningful action to support the fight against COVID-19, and to recognize all of our people around the world who are helping support their communities. Outside of volunteering, donating time and resources, our employees are our top priority at HARMAN and we continue to follow all guidelines set by global bodies like the CDC and WHO to help flatten the curve and stop the spread of coronavirus. Our leadership and teams across the globe are also continuing to embrace and harness processes and technologies that help our employees remain connected, committed, and engaged. We may physically be apart, but at HARMAN we are all standing with everyone in spirit, confident in the fact that we will get through this together.
