Safety on the road has become one of the most important qualities for automakers to consider as vehicles become more connected. At CES 2016, HARMAN introduced the industry’s first pupil-based monitoring system which was built to strike the perfect balance between maintaining a driver’s desire to stay connected while remaining alert and safe on the road. This eye and pupil tracking technology uses a camera to capture a driver’s pupil dilation while HARMAN’s proprietary software algorithm analyzes the pupil reflex in real time. This results in calculated outputs that intuitively adjust user interfaces, like placing mobile devices in do-not-disturb mode or signaling in ADAS system interventions to minimize physical and mental distractions to the driver.
