Meet our Summer Interns

We recently welcomed 51 interns and co-ops in the United States. See what brought them to HARMAN.

Our U.S. internship program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an opportunity to experience what it is like to work at a fast-paced, technology business. Internships at HARMAN take on many forms at our locations across the U.S.

The summer internship program in the U.S. provides 8 to 10 weeks of hands on practical work experience in areas such as Engineering, Finance, Marketing, Communications and Operations. Program highlights include networking events and connecting with members of our Executive Committee, including Dinesh Paliwal, President and CEO of HARMAN, and other members of senior leadership.

New to the program this year, the interns are working on a cross-functional team project to determine what emerging technology trends HARMAN should focus on as we work toward future goals.  Each team is comprised of interns from multiple offices, enabling them to gain firsthand experience with virtual collaboration. With a few guidelines, interns are encouraged to use creative thinking and solve problems independently. The project will culminate in a “Shark Tank” style presentation that the groups of interns will give to a panel of HARMAN leaders who will serve as judges.

We caught up with some of our interns and asked them a few questions about their experience so far, why they wanted to intern at HARMAN and more. Here’s what they said.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO INTERN AT HARMAN?

ryley brandt

Ryley Brandt, Novi, Connected Car Hardware
Oakland University, Major: Electrical Engineering
During my Freshman year, I met some HARMAN employees and spoke with them about Engineering and the growth in the audio industry. Talking with these passionate HARMAN employees inspired me to switch my major to Electrical Engineering. I am now going into my Senior year and am thrilled to be at the place that helped encourage me to become an Engineer.

If I had to pick just one, it would have to be using a Python environment in Windows Visual Studios to call the Windows CMD to communicate with our networks servers and repositories. The possibilities that coding can create are endless.

I had the privilege to take behind-the-scenes photos for a lifestyle photo-shoot for a product. I learned about the incredible attention to detail that it takes to create the attractive images used to market our products. It was amazing to learn from both a talented principle photographer, as well as my manager, who is an incredible photo-shoot director.
