Approaching the 60-year anniversary of the first Mustang, the world’s best-selling sports car has been reimagined for the future with the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400 demonstrator and official rollout of the All-New 2021 Mustang Mach-E. The legacy continues with new options for personalization, innovative technology, and exciting new colors! As an exclusive Ford partner, HARMAN’s mission is to interweave design, craftsmanship, and performance of automotive audio to create inspirational and transformational experiences. We’re thrilled to have collaborated with Ford in elevating its electric vehicle vision in both the Mach-E 1400 and the All-New 2021 Mustang Mach-E.

Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400 x HARMAN HALOsonic
The Mustang Mach-E 1400 prototype, developed in partnership with Formula Drift champion Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s RTR Vehicles and Ford Performance, pays homage to the Ford Mustang’s impressive legacy with seven motors, a hydraulic handbrake system designed for drifting, and a NASCAR-worthy top-speed of 160 mph.
In addition to fierce power and good looks, the Mustang Mach-E 1400 is equipped with a head-turning exterior sound profile, made possible through HARMAN’s HALOsonic External Electronic Sound Synthesis (eESS) technology and a collaboration with GRAMMY-award winning artist T-Pain. The lauded musician, also a drifter and self-proclaimed “gearhead,” created a rhythmic and roaring beat for idling, revving and accelerating that is sure to impress car enthusiasts who may be skeptical about the high-performance possibilities of EVs.
HARMAN HALOsonic eESS works by synthesizing engine feedback with pre-programmed sounds, tailoring volume and pitch to the speed and direction of the vehicle. This sound is projected from exterior speakers mounted to the car. All-New 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E x B&O

While Ford continues pushing the boundaries of electric power with the Mach-E 1400, consumers will soon be able to experience the All-New 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E for themselves: First Edition and Premium models arrive in late 2020, followed by the Select and California Route 1 in early 2021, and the performance-oriented Mach-E GT arrives in late summer 2021.
Developing the Mustang Mach-E sound system called for careful consideration from Ford’s exclusive premium partner in sound B&O, whose acoustic engineers have ensured a superior sound experience. The B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen enhances the driving experience, masterfully blending audio engineering with vehicle design and seamlessly integrating the sound system into the Mustang Mach-E’s interior.
Inspired by B&O home speakers, the team developed a Heathered Grey textile for the speaker grille material which evokes a sense of warmth and comfort for passengers. The system also features an Externally Coupled Subwoofer (ECS), which eliminates the need for a traditional subwoofer enclosure by mounting to the sheet metal of the vehicle and venting to the outside air. This efficient design delivers impressive bass performance with reduced weight and saved space.

The result is a 10-speaker, 560-watt B&O Sound System that looks as good as it sounds – even recently earning an iF World Design Award for its fluid design and efficient speaker technologies. Reviewers agree. One Driving reviewer noted that the fabric encasing the B&O speakers “...is so lush I thought it was just decorative. It wasn’t until I started pounding out the tunes that I realized that there was a sound system under there. That’s how stylish the speaker coverings are. The sound system, by the way, is like all B&O systems — incredibly precise in its reproduction.” Kelley Blue Book noted the system “not only sounds great, but it looks like it was designed from the beginning to be a part of the Mustang Mach-E interior—which it was.”
Since electric vehicles don’t emit the same aural signals as traditional cars, they’re required by law to incorporate enhanced external sound to ensure pedestrian safety. All Mustang Mach-Es are equipped with HARMAN’s Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) speakers that emit sound when traveling at low speeds, ensuring the vehicles can be heard by pedestrians and cyclists for safety.
