GENEVA MOTOR SHOW 2015 – HARMAN International Industries, Incorporated (NYSE:HAR), the premier audio, visual, infotainment and enterprise automation group, is delivering premium infotainment to the latest BMW 1-series vehicles. The BMW Navigation system Professional by HARMAN gives the driver the ultimate convenience of 3D navigation combined with an innovative display concept and numerous functions for connectivity, office and multimedia – for maximum comfort and information en route.
In a single, easily accessible unit, the HARMAN premium infotainment system combines wireless connectivity, enhanced 3D navigation and even office tools enabling communication by email and SMS, appointment coordination and to-do lists. With over-the-air navigation data updates – new in the latest generation of the Navigation system Professional – drivers can be certain route guidance stays accurate. The system is powered by a fast, 1.3 GHz processor, and offers 20 GB of hard disk storage space for personal data and multimedia content. Navigation is enriched with photo-realistic 3D city models, with advanced guidance integrating real-time traffic information. Entering destinations is a “one-shot” action, with the city, street and building number all in one natural sequence. Alternately, the driver can plan his route at home with Google Maps and then use Send to Car by ConnectedDrive Services to send the results to the navigation system.
The high-resolution 8.8 inch display offers split-screen functionality that allows a single screen to display specific content to the driver, while allowing different information to be projected to the front seat passenger. The system is fully voice-controlled, enabling drivers to keep their hands on the wheel, and the head-up display keeps eyes on the road ahead.
“HARMAN is pleased to work with BMW to push the boundaries of infotainment for improving driver safety, increasing vehicle security and enabling new connected experiences,” said Sachin Lawande, President, HARMAN Infotainment Division. “We are delighted BMW has chosen to extend its collaboration with HARMAN by rolling out this superior infotainment platform to even more vehicles across its range.”
