Shanghai Auto Show 2019 – SHANGHAI – April 16, 2019 – At the Shanghai Auto Show, HARMAN International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. focused on connected technologies for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, announced more than a dozen new business awards for its industry leading sound systems and sound management technologies in China. Automakers including Geely, its Lynk & Co brand, GAC Motor and Great Wall Motor have chosen HARMAN to upgrade the driving experience for their customers.
HARMAN Car Audio is growing at three times the market rate in China, achieving 15% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) in recent years, compared with 5% CAGR for the general market. Increased backlog for these programs exceeds $300 million.
HARMAN works in close collaboration with automakers to custom craft premium audio systems, spending hundreds of hours measuring, testing, and evaluating to achieve the optimal component mix, speaker placement and tuning for the unique acoustic characteristics of each vehicle model. The result is an audio system that delivers an unmatched listening experience and enhances every drive.
Geely has become the first Chinese automaker to adopt HARMAN’s Logic 7® surround sound technology, along with Clari-FiTM music restoration technology, which provides a high-fidelity listening experience from compressed digital files. Moreover, Geely has selected HARMAN to provide its HALOsonic Engine Order Cancellation solution to improve the in-car communication experiences in its newest vehicles.
Many China automakers have embraced HARMAN’s pioneering Infinity brand as their premium audio offering. Launched in 1968 by a team of former NASA engineers, Infinity is known globally for its technology innovation, modern design, and superior sound quality. Vehicles that will be launching with Infinity premium branded audio system in China include GAC Motor’s GA6 and GA8 sedans, GS8 and GSB (for the US market) SUVs as well as the GM8 minivan. In addition, Great Wall Motor’s luxury SUV brands WEY and Haval will equip its VV5, VV6, VV7 and Haval H9 vehicles respectively with available Infinity premium audio.
Furthering its momentum, HARMAN Car Audio has forged key collaborations in the China market with leading global automakers, including General Motors. Extending its successful collaboration with SAIC-GM, HARMAN China Car Audio will also continue supplying its amplifier solutions for Cadillac and expand the offering to additional SGM models.
“We are honored to have earned this long list of business awards in China, the largest automotive market in the world,” said Patrick Xu, VP & GM, Car Audio China for HARMAN. ”Embracing our prestigious audio brands, our OEM partners are giving their customers access to an elevated driving and listening experience, backed up by a decades-long automotive expertise and world class marketing partnerships that only HARMAN can provide.”
