STAMFORD, CONN., AUGUST 17, 2017 – HARMAN International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. focused on connected technologies for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, today named Tom Mooney as Director of Public Affairs. Based in Washington, D.C., Mooney will report directly to Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Communications and Chief of Staff to the CEO, Paula Davis.

“Tom’s strong track record and experience in building bipartisan relationships in Washington will help HARMAN to strategically accelerate its dialogue with key lawmakers, non-governmental organizations and trade associations,” said Paula Davis. “HARMAN’s public policy and public affairs efforts will benefit greatly from Tom’s thoughtful approach to educating and engaging with our key stakeholders in the public sector. This will also accelerate our contributions in areas such as the connected car, autonomous driving, IoT, and cybersecurity.”

In this newly created role, Mooney will work closely with HARMAN’s divisional business leaders and Samsung’s Government Affairs team to execute meaningful policy and communications plans that help HARMAN to work with government leaders in driving progress, inspiring innovation and advancing strategic investments. Mooney will also provide HARMAN leadership with additional insight into potential regulations and governmental guidelines impacting the company, will pursue research opportunities and programs on behalf of HARMAN business units and guide the company’s overall position in public sector initiatives.

With nearly a decade of strategy and consulting experience in Washington, Mooney has focused on solving complex organizational challenges, enhancing business growth and driving thoughtful partnerships. Most recently, Mooney served as Technology and Innovation leader at Booz Allen Hamilton with a focus on cyber security. During that time, he served as the Program Manager in designing, establishing and operationalizing Auto-ISAC, the vehicle cybersecurity information sharing organization, which HARMAN joined in 2016. Mooney has also supported the development of highly sensitive cyber and analytics related programs for various U.S. Intelligence Community and Department of Defense offices and agencies. Prior to Booz Allen Hamilton, Mooney bravely served the U.S. in combat with the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment.

Mooney earned a Masters Certificate in Applied Intelligence Studies (Analysis) from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, and, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and Mass Communication Strategy from University of North Carolina Wilmington.
