STAMFORD, CT –  August 1, 2019HARMAN International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., focused on connected technologies for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, today announced that the company has added hardware and system level processes to the scope of their ISO 26262 certification, first received in November 2018 for software processes. Granted by TÜV SÜD, one of the world’s leading experts on functional safety for the automotive industry, the ISO 26262:2018 accreditation is the international standard for functional safety in the automotive industry.

Critical for the safety of connected vehicles, the ISO 26262 standard was established to address the increasing complexity of safety-relevant E/E systems and the related hardware and software components within all vehicle fleets. Adding hardware and system development to the scope of the ISO 26262 certification further validates HARMAN’s product development processes, ensuring safety remains the main focus and priority while developing automotive safety-relevant systems. Along with expanding the scope of the certificate, HARMAN has also upgraded to the latest version of the standard, underlining the Company’s commitment to assuring world-class development in functional safety requirements.

“Advanced driver assistance systems are becoming an integral part of the cockpit of a vehicle, and HARMAN is dedicated to meeting and surpassing the industry’s standard for safety at every level,” said Dinesh Paliwal, HARMAN President and CEO. “Expanding the scope of our processes certified under ISO 26262, demonstrates our commitment to leveraging the most trusted procedures, methods and tools used to develop safety-oriented automotive solutions and services, furthering our position as an industry leader.”

Under this standard, TÜV SÜD endorses the System, Hardware, and Software Development Process including Functional Safety Management up to ASIL D, which represents the most stringent level.
